3 Ways how to find related keywords by using free tools
When building a new website its important to use both nested keywords and related keywords because it makes your site look more natural in the eyes of the seach engines otherwise it may look like you are purposely trying to manipulate the search engines by only using keywords with your main keyword in it aswell.
The way i compile a list of related keywords is both simple and free. There are additional keyword tools that you can go out there and buy but i dont feel the need as the ways which i use are plenty good enough.
First way
The first place i go to is google. I type my main keyword phraze into google and then scroll to the bottom of the page where it says “related searches” and there you will see that google are literally handing to you on a plate the most relevant related keywords to the keyword that you typed in.
I will provide a quick example to make things more clear.
I chose the keyword “cheap cooker”
and the related keywords were:
You may find sometimes some of the keywords wouldnt make much sense when used for an article but as long as you use the keyword within a title somewhere that would be fine.
As you can see words like compare and prices are very good related keywords to consider.
Second way
Go to google insights and again type in your main keyword into the box. Click search then scroll down and on the left handside are a list of some more related keywords to the keyword that you entered into the search box. If your not fully convinced that these are indeed related keywords hover over the question mark circle and it will confirm that they are related keywords.
You may find a few simliar keywords in here as you found using the first way but usually you will find at least a couple of new ones.
Third Way
Go back to google and type your main keyword in and click search then go to the left hand side and click “more search tools”
Then click onto wonder wheel
The google wonder wheel will provide you with related keywords to your main keyword once again. You can sometimes find some new ones here also so its sometimes worth a check.
In summary:
I only ever use the first two steps to find related keywords and the 3rd way is an added extra
Dont forget keyword research is very important and is something that you will want to get very good at as soon as you can.
I hope this has answered some questions as i know many people were unsure how to find related keywords with only using free tools but hopefully you now know exactly how to do it
see ya in my next post
thanks

Thanks Paul. We Internet marketers often get lured into thinking we have to purchase expensive keyword tools when Google so graciously offers up nested keywords … for free!
I appreciate you sharing your insights in using no-cost tools that are readily available — and quite useful for targeting those sub-niche keywords.
Please keep these great little nuggets coming!

Paul,
Great post again. Are you using the related keywords as the internal pages? If most traffic is to the home page is the related keyword pages just extra bonuses? Also, how do you decide if you can add certain longtail phrases to existing pages you already have on site to get some traffic vs starting a whole new page for the phrase?? Jill
